Call out for artists, writers, illustrators, musicians, thinkers for an exhibition publication & live event

Manchester
Blank Media Collective is a not-for-profit arts organisation based in Manchester, UK that strives to support emerging creativity by providing platforms and opportunities to share it with the wider community.
We are programming an exhibition, supporting symposium, publication and events programme called ‘equals’. ‘equals’ aims to open up and critique the conversations surrounding contemporary British feminism and gender equality to anyone and everyone. The goal is to provide a platform for artists, writers, musicians and thinkers to develop and express their thoughts and concerns on the themes of feminism and its wider social implications.

Feminism =

Call for Artists¹ Proposals for a New Live Art Work for the Floating Cinema

Call for Artists¹ Proposals for a New Live Art Work for the Floating Cinema

The Agency is collaborating with The Floating Cinema to commission a new site-specific performance or live event that will take place in the week commencing 29 July 2013 and which will engage with audiences on and/or off the vessel whilst moored or moving near the Regent¹s Park, London Zoo to Paddington Basin.

This commission builds on the success of artist Ian Giles¹ 2011 commission for the Floating Cinema, A Smaller Sound, A Bigger Crowd, which took place at Canary Wharf.

Proposals are invited to take advantage of the magical, unexpected qualities of the Floating Cinema and, in some way, respond to the specific contexts of the area, its history, location or daily life. The project can also respond to the Floating Cinema¹s 2013 programme theme of ŒExtra-Ordinary¹, and applicants are invited to consider that broad theme in their proposal as they wish.

Depending on the proposal, the performance/event could be presented several times during the week of 29 July (for example, repeated to audiences daily) as well as being webcast live to online audiences.

Regrettably the Floating Cinema is not accessible to wheelchair users and whilst applicants must consider this and the other restrictions of the venue in their proposal, inventive, inclusive and bold uses of both the vessel and of the location are welcomed.

The successful artist will be selected by UP ProjectsSomewhere and the Live Art Development Agency.

Budget: £3,500 (inclusive of artist¹s fees, personal and production expenses & taxes)

Deadline for proposals: 9am on 28 May 2013

Be Live- call for artists

DEADLINE: Monday 27th May 5pm

Be Live as part From The Rooftops at The Penthouse.

Who? This is a call for artists working with live art and/or sound.

What? Be Live is an evening of art that asks for something new in a place where risks can be taken. Be Live- asks for heightened presence from both artist and audience. This does not mean a lot of annoying  participatory work- it means none of us should be by standers.

The evening will be a multi sensory exploration into the moment and will push at the walls and ceilings of acceptability of an art show. We are interested in the personal as shared experience and the shared live art space as politically and socially important. Our use of an image of Valerie Solanas in the poster acts as a direct link to artist as risk taker and peddler.

What we are looking for:

Surprises.

Intelligent use of space.

New live, sound and multi sensory works. Works can be installed rather than performed but they must create an immediate experience that work in a ‘one night only’ context.

Work unapologetic of being personal or honest.

What we are not looking for:

Tried and tested ways of performing or presenting live art or sound. For example there will be no theatre/music/gig/sound art table or floor ‘set ups’.

Repeated motifs of live art (ie no balloons).

Sound artists who carry out their regular set regardless of site.

Work based only on theatrical merit

We do not require proposed work to be all singing and all dancing.

We do not require proposed work to be entertaining.

We do not require the answers before you begin.

Where?

The Penthouse, 507-511 Hilton House, 26-28 Hilton Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester, M1 2EH.

Spaces: Hilton House Staircase and lift. Penthouse lobby area and toilets. Penthouse corridor project space. Penthouse Suites 1, 2 and 3.

When? Saturday 8th June from 6pm

How to Apply:

Please send a written proposal of between 500- 700 words (guideline only) with example documentation of up to 3 previous relevant works to thepenthousenq@gmail.com

DEADLINE: Monday 27th May 5pm

Fee: Artist fees available to be discussed based on individual proposals.
