Assemble - Call for works in progress

CALL OUT FOR WORKS- IN- PROGRESS

Deadline: THURSDAY 12th SEPTEMBER

ASSEMBLE is a brand-new, small-scale D.I.Y performance platform, happening in Manchester. ASSEMBLE is for story-tellers, live artists, comedians,  writers and anyone in between to come together in a room, have a conversation and  test their ideas out.

We are concentrating on work that has something to say for itself, tells a story and is small in scale but big in ideas.

For our very first event in the autumn, we are looking for four un-finished pieces that need a testing ground and would benefit from exposure to supportive audience.

There are three rules:

-          The whole thing, including setting up and putting away must fit into a 20-30 minute time slot.

-         It can be broadly defined as live-art or performance

-          AND that you will be prepared to develop the piece with our support and perform it again in four months’ time.

We are not looking for sleek finished or polished pieces but for strong starting point, an interesting first step and an openness to share thoughts on process and development of work.

If you have an idea and want to get involved email us at assembletheatre@gmail.com for an application form.

NB: In the next few weeks we hope to be announcing the venue and  the date, keep an eye out on twitter @assembleNW or our blog assembletheatre.wordpress.com

ALSO: We want this to be a regular event but to do that we NEED you. So, if you have an idea or a fully formed piece that’s not quite right for our first event, email us, tell us about your work and about you and we’ll get back to you. OR if you have a performance coming up and would like to put it on at ASSEMBLE, invite us and we will do our best to come!

AND: We are open to ideas… get in touch

Emergency 2013 (5 Oct 2013) - call for proposals

Emergency is our annual platform for live art and contemporary performance featuring up to 40 short pieces of work in a single day, across a number of Manchester venues.

To get a feel for it, have a look at the 2012 programme and gallery.

In 2013 the fourteenth Emergency takes place on Saturday 5 October, at BLANKSPACE (12-4pm) and Z-arts (3-11pm) with the callout for proposals open from Friday 12 July to Wednesday 14 August, 5pm — details are posted here and at emergencymcr.org

With a whole range of spaces to fill - and the journey between spaces to think about too - what we now need is a lots of great work! So...

Artists working in live art, contemporary performance, time-based media and interdisciplinary arts are invited to submit proposals of short pieces of work, works in progress or extracts of longer works for inclusion in this event. Proposals are also encouraged for durational, one to one and limited capacity work and performance installation and works which inhabit the journey between the spaces.

Emergency is:

  • a free public micro-festival;
  • an opportunity for artists to meet, show and peer review work;
  • a selection event for a number of small Works Ahead commissions to be developed & supported by hÅb;

Work can be in any relevant artform/medium, though some live presence is desirable. Show-type work should be 20 minutes max in duration, low tech and suitable for quick turnarounds, self-supporting in terms of props/set/equipment and specialised technology.

We also strongly encourage durational, one to one and limited capacity work; performance installation and intervention-based works in and around the spaces and on the journey from BLANKSPACE to Z-arts.

Emergency cannot pay fees or expenses (though we do feed you quite well!)

To apply:

  • Download the Emergency Open Call Guidance Notes (below);
  • Complete the Online Proposal form (selecting Open, Upstairs commission or both);
  • Complete the Online Monitoring form (please, it really helps us!);

DEADLINE Wed 14 August 2013, 5pm.

BLANKSPACE Upstairs Commission

In addition we are looking for one durational piece, working within specific criteria, to occupy the Main Exhibition Space, upstairs at BLANKSPACE. We realise that the criteria are specific and there is therefore a budget of £250 available for this work. This is a challenging space – as it is surrounded by alcoves, in which there will be small performances and interactions taking place, with no sound baffling.

The piece we are looking for must be:

  • Durational;
  • For a group audience that can come and go;
  • Able to co-exist with other pieces – so neither loud (preferably unamplified), nor overly sensitive to external noise spill.

To apply:

  • Download the BLANKSPACE Upstairs Guidance Notes (below);
  • Complete the Online Proposal form (selecting Open, Upstairs commission or both);

Leaping Out – Season 2

LEAPING OUT

SEASON 2

CALL FOR ARTISTS

DEADLINE: 12NOON 12/08/2013

Download the application pack

Leaping Out is a creative and professional development project for individuals with an interest in multidisciplinary collaborative practices.

It will take place between Friday 6th September and Friday 13th September in Lancaster, Lancashire.

The project will see 12 emerging* artists collaborate in creating and curating a showcase of entirely new pieces made during that week, which will take place at the Dukes DT3 on the evening on Friday 13th. The participants will be given a stimulus to guide their creative making process at the start of the week.

They will be given the space, time and resources required to consider possible approaches to cross-art forms collaborations.

In addition to this, and throughout the week, the selected** artists will be invited to attend showings, workshops and presentations*** aiming to provide them with a toolkit for onward creative and professional development.

We are now seeking expressions of interest from enthusiastic creative individuals who are forward thinking and willing to push themselves and the work they make alongside people they do not know and who may come from a different background or work with a different art form.

If this sounds like you, and that you are willing to find new and exciting ways to create with the added thrill of the time constraint, we’d love to hear from you. To register your interest, please fill in the following form and return it to submissions@talkwithleap.com by 12noon on 12th August.

You may not need to be able to commit to the whole week to take part, please contact leo@talkwithleap.com for more information or if you would like to talk about the project informally before making an application.

FW: Open Call - Beacons Festival

Open Call - Beacons Festival

18th - 21st August 2013

Impossible Lecture invites your proposals stretching across theatre / performance / live art / cabaret / dance / participatory / workshop / music / spoken word / classes / talks / film / miscellaneous - basically anything fit for a festival!

2013 marks our first year programming work outside of our regular schedule and we want you to help us build upon our infamous reputation for creating a space of anarchic unpredictability and unadulterated joy. We have a stage, lights, a projector, PA and the desire to create unforgettable moments that etch themselves into the minds eye for years to come.

Impossible Lecture aspires to be more than just another performance tent; instead an open and honest space for ideas to flourish and discussions to flow freely. We are particularly interested in any artists that want to engage festival goers in an active / participatory way. Impossible Lecture is a social space and we want work that reflects this.

The project is unfunded so we cannot pay artists, however you will get access to the whole festival along with meal vouchers and refreshments.

Application form HERE. Deadline 15th July.
