The Playground, West Yorkshire Playhouse’s regular scratch night returns this Spring.

Curated mainly from an open call out process, the evenings feature a range of artists, both local and from further afield, presenting brand new pieces of work in various spaces across the theatre. Previous events have featured a mix of exciting talent and fresh ideas from West Yorkshire and across the UK .

We are looking for...
  • Exciting new pieces of work in development , which might never have been put in front of an audience before.
  • Individual artists or companies who span devised theatre, performance art, new writing, cabaret, spoken word, site-specific, music, dance and physical theatre – however you make performance we want to hear from you.
  • Projects by artists who are at any stage of their career, and based in any location, whether West Yorkshire or nationally.
  • We are interested in works in progress and ideas which suit a variety of locations – from a lively bar environment, or another nook or cranny within or outside of West Yorkshire Playhouse.
  • Pieces which are between 5-25 minutes in duration and require either basic or no technical support.

  • Brief description of you and your work (include web links/video/images if you can)
  • Brief description of the work in progress or idea you would like to present at The Playground, and how it might be useful for you to present the work to an audience at this stage.
  • The kind of space which your proposal might potentially suit (front of house stage, or a different kind of location)
  • Details of any technical requirements or set-up which the piece might require.
  • Availability during the day and evening of Thursday 23 January and/or Thursday 27 February.

Please note that an expenses fee will be paid to the programmed artists.
