hÅb is recruiting an intern to work with us on all areas of activity for a 6 month period from end October 2013.
hÅb specialises in the development, production and presentation of live art and contemporary performance and the curation of site specific live art festivals. It runs a series of artist development projects and a public programme Word of Warning.
The nature of the organisation dictates the need for a wide skill-base, with a team of 2 (one full time and one part-time) dealing with all areas from programming to finance, technical to marketing. This internship is therefore ideal for someone wishing to develop a wide range of arts experience and to try out a number of more specialist areas.

The Creative Employment Programme is an Arts Council England fund to support the creation of traineeships, formal apprenticeship and paid internship opportunities in England for unemployed young people wishing to pursue a career in the arts and cultural sector. Job Description:
To assist in planing and delivering a series of contemporary live projects, ranging from performance platforms to a site-specific mini-festival.
In addition you may also be required to work across other areas including project administration, marketing, technical, front of house and design.
Duties:
Under supervision, to undertake:
- Correspondence with artists
- Scheduling and planning, including technical
- Creation/distribution of publicity materials – written and visual
- Front of house + box office management and stewarding
- Data capture and processing
The Trainee Project Manager may, at times be required to represent the organisation at meetings with partners and stakeholders.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Some experience working on arts projects in a professional or voluntary/amateur capacity
- Computer literate
- Some money handling experience
- Interest in/understanding of live art, contemporary performance and theatre.
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
- Excellent customer facing skills
- Ability to word independently and within a team.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
- Ability to work flexible hours to include evening and weekend working
- GCSE English and Maths, grade C or above or its equivalent
Desirable:
- Educated to degree level, BA Hons
- Driving Licence
- 1 year experience of working on arts projects in a professional capacity.
- Experience of working with professional artists.
- Customer facing work experience
- Experience of both PC and Mac, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Filemaker Pro
- Experience of co-ordinating arts events and projects
- Some knowledge/ experience of technical theatre.
- Documentation skills including photography and video filming and editing.
- An understanding of site specific performance, including liaison with Authorities and technical planning, health and safety and risk assessment.
- Good knowledge of artists and arts organisations working in the region
- Basic web design skills
- Basic graphic design skills
