Call for Submissions - Hatch: Exchange
£200 per selected performance
Embrace Arts, Leicester, Saturday 11 & Sunday 12 October 2014 (selected performances to be presented Sunday 12 October)
Exchange (n.)
1. An act of giving one thing and receiving another in return.
2. A building or institution used for the trading of particular commodities.
3. A short conversation or argument.
Hatch, the East Midlands' leading mobile platform for experimental theatre and live art, returns to Embrace Arts in association with In Good Company for a weekend of performances, workshops and events exploring the notion of give and take.
We are currently seeking submissions for performance work in any style or genre which responds to the themes of ‘exchange’, from artists and performers looking to show their work to new audiences and share skills and experiences with colleagues, peers and potential collaborators. Performances will be presented on Sunday 12 October, following a day of artist-led workshops and events presented by Hatch in association with In Good Company on Saturday 11 October. It would be fabulous if you could join us for the Saturday to take part in these activities, but if you are only able to perform on Sunday we still want to hear from you.
We are especially interested in performance work which falls between disciplines or is hard to define, work which is still in progress or otherwise ‘unfinished’, and work which can connect directly with audiences without the use of a fourth wall. Embrace Arts is one of only two purpose-built spaces in the East Midlands for the promotion of arts and disability and we particularly welcome proposals from Deaf or disabled artists.
Because of the nature of the venue and the event, performances which are suited for flexible spaces and which are mainly technically self-contained will work best (it won’t be possible to accommodate complicated lighting designs for example), but all proposals will be considered on the merits of their ideas and our potential ability to present your work in the best possible way. If you want to know whether something specific will be possible before submitting your application, please ask us!
Each selected performance will receive a fee of £200.
Entrance to the public for all events will be free (although individual elements may require payment of some kind...)
The deadline for submissions is midnight at the end of Monday 15 September 2014. We will reply to all applicants in the week following the deadline.
