EXPERIMENTICA14: CO-EXISTENCE HAS NEVER BEEN EASY
The 2014 call for submissions is now open!
This year’s festival takes its title from the 2009 science fiction thriller ‘District 9’ (directed by Neill Blomkamp), a multi-layered allegory that explores our attitudes to outsiders. The title is not a theme but we hope will be a starting point in which participants can explore how we co-exist.
Every year, Experimentica selects a range of artists from an open call for submissions. Selected artists will be invited to develop their proposal for a performance or presentation to take place during the festival.
Applicants should be engaged in the creation of experimental live performance, sound, film and video, installation, dance and theatre. They might also write poetry or prose and be keen to test their work in a new way that engages with the festival and its wider context online, in print, through radio or other broadcast means.
- If you have an idea that you would like to test out; a fully realised work that you would like to show for the first time, or a performance that you have shown before but would like the chance to bring it to new audiences, we would like to hear from you.
- If you would like to colonise a space at Chapter – or elsewhere in Cardiff - or share ideas and critical feedback with other artists or host a talk or event, we would like to hear from you.
- If you are an artist who would like to take part we actively encourage you to stay for all five days of the festival so that you can make the most of your time here. Alongside the opportunity to see works by many other artists, this also includes our daily peer-to-peer dialogue and performance review, talks and presentations hosted by our artist-curator team and social events.
