Victoria Melody Masterclass, Thu 20 March @ Contact, Manchester

Dear Artist,

As Flying Solo Festival takes off next week (see www.contactmcr.com/flyingsolo for more info) we prepare to welcome some exciting national and international artists through Contact’s doors. One of those artists will be the wonderful Victoria Melody, who brings her solo show Major Tom to our main stage on Thursday 20th March. During her visit Victoria will be running an exclusive Masterclass in performance for artists. Details of which can be found below, along with an eshot about Major Tom.

A bit of background on Victoria first though:

Victoria Melody is a British artist with a background in fine art. She makes one-woman theatrical shows, performance interventions and films mainly about England’s pastimes, passions and tribes. Fascinated by anthropology, she immerses herself into communities and becomes an active participant in their rituals as research for her work. In the past she has become a pigeon racer, a northern soul dancer, a championship dog handler and a beauty queen. Victoria has presented her work nationally and internationally at venues including Soho Theatre, Oxford Playhouse, The Lowry, Bristol Old Vic, Battersea Arts Centre, Summerhall (Edinburgh Festival Fringe), Push Festival (Canada), Aarhus Festival (Denmark) and Brisbane Festival (Australia).

..and some info on the masterclass itself.

To accompany the touring of her new show Major Tom, Victoria has created a workshop that offers an insight into the strategies and methodologies she uses when creating new work. The workshop will look at her creative triggers and approach to creating research based work.  Participants will experiment with creating solo performances, confessional performances, humorous performances, performances from observed behaviour and performances using video and collected paraphernalia.

We look forward to seeing you during Flying Solo!
